HOW TO MAKE CANOLA OIL

Our technology is based on the non-chemical way of canola processing which corresponds to the following scheme: seeds preheating- mechanical extraction in the oil press-extrusion-mechanical extraction in the final oil press-cooling the oil cake down-oil filtering.

Taking into consideration the fact that the oil content of canola seeds 40…45% and the oil yield after the oil press is 25…27% we use the double oil pressing technology. What does it mean? In order to press out as much as possible, we feed the canola seeds in the oil press for cold oil pressing out and we finish the general process with the final mechanical oil extraction.

The condition of raw material used for oil production is highly important. Canola seeds should be cleaned from the impurities and dried up to 7... 8%.

The temperature of the raw material prior to processing should be not lower than 15 °C.

If necessary, the canola can be heated in the preheater.

From the preheater canola is fed into a screw oil press where the mechanical oil extraction takes place. As the processing temperature is 50...55 °C it means that the ready product we get is cold-pressed oil.

canola oil yield is 20 ... 22% (the 1st oil pressing)

the ready oil cake contains 18 ... 23% of residual oil

After the cold oil pressing, we feed the material into the extruder where the processing temperature is nearly 105 ...115 °C.  The product is compressed and mixed in a quite short period of time which is less than 30 seconds.

The screw feeder conveys the extruded canola oil cake into the mechanical oil press where the final oil extraction happens.

canola oil yield is 8 ... 13% (the 2nd oil pressing)

the ready oil cake contains 8 ... 10% of residual oil

Cooling the oil cake down using the cooler OE-1000

The last but not least is the process of cooling.

Canola oil cake is necessary to cool down in the right way to its safe temperature, otherwise, some negative processes will occur such as protein denaturation and the oil cake will simply lose its quality.

The ready canola oil is supplied to the refining systems.
